The challenge: Lavish and highly complex visualizations
Demand for moving images produced to the highest quality continues to grow. For their product and brand launches, companies often want films that involve highly complex digital environments. Toyota wished to promote the launch of the Auris Hybrid in Japan with a TV commercial in which the car is driven through an underground tunnel from Milan to Japan in a matter of seconds. The specific challenges included delivering photorealistic quality for the four full-CGI shots, the on-location pre-visualization and coordination with the directors and production team, and the conception of the digital environment, which took place in parallel.

The solution and making it happen: A perfect symbiosis of high-end vehicle visualization and visual effects
In collaboration with the Tohokushinsha Film Corporation a 60-second commercial was created in a project lasting just six weeks from start to finish. It features Japanese soccer star Keisuke Honda, who was with AC Milan at the time, driving a Toyota Auris Hybrid through the tunnel from Milan to Japan in next to no time.
Mackevision was responsible for the car animation and for the conception and realization of the CGI virtual tunnel environment. Four of the twelve VFX shots were entirely computer-generated and are particularly notable for their photorealistic quality.
At the same time as the lavish location shoot was taking place at the Brenner Base Tunnel and other offbeat locations in Italy, Mackevision’s VFX artists in Stuttgart and Hamburg were busy working on the conception, realization and look development of the digital environment. The finished commercial creates a perfect symbiosis of high-end vehicle visualization and visual effects.
